Rihanna is grieving after her grandmother Clara Dolly Brathwaite passed away on Sunday night (1 July).

The singer has taken to Twitter to announce the sad news and pay tribute to her beloved “grangran Dolly”.

The We Found Love star posted numerous pictures of herself and her relative, who died in New York after battling cancer.

“Goodbye #grangranDolly get your beauty rest until I see you,” she wrote on her profile.

Rihanna went on to share a series of touching pictures of herself and her grandmother.

One of them showed the pop star as a young girl, posing with a happy and healthy Clara as she sneakily held up two fingers to create the famous "Bunny Ears" look behind her grandmother’s head.

Amongst the condolences that have been flooding in for the singer was a touching tweet by Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s mother Joyce.

“@Rihanna ANGEL MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR TIME OF SORROW. LOVE YOU ANGEL,” she wrote.

”@mombreezy thank you! Love u mama,” Rihanna replied.

Later in the day, Chris himself tweeted his support but did not address his former love directly.

"Praying for family and the lost loved one. She was like my grandmother. Love you GRAN GRAN! RIP," he wrote.

The Bajan beauty has spent recent weeks jetting back and forth to New York to spend as much time with her beloved relative as possible.
